ALM 4 is an ignition module lockout, meaning the burner tried to light and failed. The unit locks out for one hour and auto resets, up to three trials per day. Common causes are a closed gas shut off valve, incorrect gas pressure, a blocked chimney or vent, a wind affected vent termination, or an ignition module or flame sensor fault. In Calgary the most common seasonal cause is snow or ice blocking the outside vent termination.
